If you are interested in contact lenses, we can help you find the perfect type to suit your needs and lifestyle. Various types of disposable lenses are available, as well as hard gas-permeable lenses designed to be long-lasting.
For convenience, daily disposable lenses are the best option for busy people. You simply wear them once and throw them away. If you only wear lenses occasionally for special events or to play sports, these can be a good choice.
2-weekly lenses can be worn daily for up to 2 weeks, at which point they are discarded and a new pair started. They need to be cleaned and stored correctly when not in use, but they can be more cost-effective than daily disposables.
Similar to 2-weekly lenses, these are used daily but last a month. They need to be cleaned and stored each night when you remove them. Monthly disposables offer great value for money.
Also ‘rigid gas permeable (RGP) lenses’, these hard lenses, worn daily, allow oxygen to pass through, allowing your eyes to ‘breathe’. They are small and move when you blink, minimising drying. They can take some getting used to, but for some people, they are the best option.
Even if you don’t have a standard single-vision prescription, you can still wear contact lenses. There are many options now for different types of lenses.
If you have astigmatism, where the cornea or lens of your eye has a different curvature than normal, you’ll need toric lenses. These are available in disposable lenses.
If you have presbyopia, which requires you to have different prescriptions for near and distance vision, you can get multifocal lenses, allowing you to focus on different distances. No more switching between glasses, these contact lenses are much more convenient.
More advanced than standard multifocal lenses, EDOF lenses offer a wider range of clear vision along many depths of focus. Multifocal lenses have 2 main zones for distance and near vision, but EDOF lenses give uninterrupted vision at all distances.
Our optometrist will talk you through all the different types of lenses suitable for your prescription and help you choose the best ones to fit your needs. This will depend on how often you intend to wear them and for what reasons. If you’re just looking for occasional wear when playing sports, you’ll have different requirements than someone who wants to wear them daily for work. We’ll discuss your lifestyle and expectations and help you decide what works best for you.
